Ph.D Programme in English
Ph.D Programme in English was initiated by the Centre of Excellence in Research Innovations, St. Xavier's University in September 2020. With the vision of creating an intellectual environment for academic exchange and dissemination of scholarly ideas within the university the programme aims for wider engagement with the global community of researchers through outreach, colloquiums and conferences. Currently the department has nine bright scholars and faculty members from experts from across the country. The course will create an awareness of research ethics and integrity and familiarize the students with the 'good practices' of research.
M.A in English
The post-graduate course in English Studies is a combination of old school English Literature core papers that give the students a detailed and a critical insight into areas of British Literature that they had only an overview of and areas of Literary theory and specialization that focus on area studies. The current curriculum involves student reading 16 papers across 4 semesters spanning two years.
Programme Outcomes (POs)
The M.A. course curriculum has been designed with the aim of encouraging critical and creative thinking., engaging in scholarly inquiry to identify and investigate questions of a theoretical and/or applied nature, demonstrating detailed knowledge in one or more disciplines and integrate knowledge and perspectives across disciplinary boundaries and above all in developing personal integrity and professional behaviour in scholarly endeavours and in collaborating with others within and beyond the academic community.
As the Post-Graduation course leads to research opportunities, the course includes the ability to identify gaps and limitations in the existing literature, recognize the value, use and limits of multi-disciplinary learning and to cultivate an openness to consider and engage alternative research perspectives.
B.A. Honours in English
The B.A. Honours course in English follows the C.B.C.S. curriculum and syllabus which is significantly skill-centric and flexible in its' inter-disciplinary methods that allows students to choose a few papers that is better allied to their own course and affiliated interests. The complete course runs for three years with six semesters and consists of 142 academic credits and 2 non-academic credits.

The B.A. course provides an education in variety of contexts. The BA (Hons) program is designed to help learners to develop a comprehensive understanding of the theories and practice of language use, demonstrate advanced critical thinking skills, to communicate to diverse audiences in a variety of contexts and genres and ability to use, analyse, and learn communication technologies.
