70th Anniversary of Constitution Day
3rd December 2019
St. Xavier's University, Kolkata celebrated the Feast of St. Francis Xavier, the patron of the university. The Fathers, Sisters, students, faculty members and staff members participated in the Holy Eucharistic Celebration at the chapel to seek blessings of their patron, who during his short yet inspiring tenure on earth touched the lives of many men and women.
St. Francis Xavier came to India in the year 1542 to spread the Word of God and worked tirelessly for almost 10 years. This decade is earmarked as the Xaverian decade. In spite of hailing from a well to do family, he devoted his life for the service of mankind. During his teaching career at the then elite college in Paris as professor of philosophy. The words of St. Ignatius of Loyola - "What does it profit a man, if he gains the whole world and yet loses his soul" transformed his quest for worldly ambitions.
Our Vice-Chancellor, Fr. Felix Raj, SJ led the congregation in prayer and reiterated that we should make all efforts to imbibe the qualities of St. Francis Xavier. A cultural programme was organised by the Xavierian Family on the occasion..
