University's commitment towards Social Responsibility

As a Jesuit Educational Institution, St. Xavier's University, Kolkata has remained committed in showing its continued support towards the social cause. The University stands firmly committed towards its Jesuit/Xaverian Motto: 'forming men and women for others'. As a result, it initiated a Non-Academic Credit Programme which is unique of its kind.
Under the Non-Academic Credit Programme, each UG student gets an opportunity to spend at least 30 hours (during three-year period) to contribute towards the social change through various social activities initiated by the University.
It is an effort by the University's youth to share the knowledge and wisdom with the underprivileged. The volunteering students benefit in terms of getting exposure to the rural life and social reality. They also learn the value of sharing, caring and doing something meaningful for others! As a result, the students contribute in brining sustainable solutions using educational programmes to empower children, youth and communities for a better future.

Neighbourhood Service:

Posted : 14 March 2019

St. Xavier's University students continue their committed service to the neighbourhood children. Every weekend (Saturdays and Sundays) a group of enthusiastic students from the University visit the local villages - Kathalberia and Kulberia, under Beonta Panchayat of Bhangar II Block (South 24 Parganas District) and teach the young children of various governments run primary schools, to impart quality education to them. Another group of our students have been carrying out a noble drive by running Spoken English Classes at the University Campus for the older students especially those who attend secondary schools/colleges. These students generally come from Dharmatala-Panchuria Village. Both these activities are being fully managed by the students themselves and the overall impact appears to be highly positive, a fruitful experience for both university students as well as village children. It has brought a new ray of hope among the village people, school teachers and leaders. - Paritosh Majumdar
