Admissions

  • 01. What are the Admission criteria and desired qualifications?
    Successful completion of any full-time UG Degree of minimum 3 years duration in any discipline from a recognized University, with a minimum of 50% of marks (45% in case of SC/ST/OBC and Christian candidates). Those appearing for the final examinations, may also apply on the basis of the marks obtained till the last semester. There is no specific degree preference. Alongside this, the candidate is also required to appear for any of the National Level MBA Entrance Exams : CAT, XAT, MAT, CMAT, NMAT, GMAT and ATMA
  • 02. How does the Admission process work?
    This has been explained in detail on the website. The brief answer to this would be: Student should fill up online application Form > Pay Online Application Fee of Rs.1000 > Appear for GD-PI-WAT > Final Selection Offer Letter is released > Pay Rs. 30,000 Admission Fee to confirm you admission if selected.
  • 03. What is the format of the interview? What are you looking for while interviewing candidates?
    The interviews will be in an open-ended format. Any candidate appearing in a personal interview will be judged on several parameters like Communication skills – both verbal and non-verbal, clarity of thought and expression, analytical skills, reasoning ability, business/general Awareness etc.
  • 04. Which exam test scores are accepted? Is there any cut-off?
    The following National Level Entrance Test Scores are accepted for admissions in XBS: XAT, CAT, GMAT, MAT, CMAT, ATMA, and NMAT. There are no cut-offs as such since the admission of the candidate will be based on the composite score considering different dimensions like Past Academic Records, Entrance Test Score, and Performance in GD-PI-WAT etc.
  • 05. Do I need work experience to apply?
    While work experience will help enrich your MBA journey it is NOT a prerequisite to pursue an MBA at XBS.

Student Life

  • 01. How is the campus life at XBS?
    XBS is a home away from home with all the fun, frolic, socializing and interaction. Numerous cultural, sports and management events take place throughout the year to keep the students occupied with music, drama, dance, bon-fire nights, winter carnival and various indoor and outdoor sports.
  • 02. What student clubs and committees are there at XBS?
    There are various student clubs and committees to engage the students at XBS namely Xavier’s Entrepreneurship Cell (XEC), Management Games, Debate and Quiz Cell (MADEQ), Finance Club, Marketing Club, Human Resource Club, Cultural Affairs Committee, Sports Affairs Committee, Admissions Committee, Media and Public Relations Committee, Academic Affairs Committee, Placement Committee and Industry and Alumni Relations Committee.
  • 03. How would you describe the ability to interact with the faculty while on campus?
    The faculties at campus are easily approachable and friendly, and ample opportunities are available for interaction. Each student is assigned a separate mentor faculty whom the students can approach anytime in campus.
  • 04. Is it compulsory to stay in the hostel?
    Although St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata offers residential facilities to the students through the two separate hostels, it is not compulsory for the students to stay in the hostel. Those who want to avail the hostel facilities will have to apply for the same and follow the procedure mentioned in the website.
  • 05. How does the B-school encourages Sports and other non-academic and co-curricular activities?
    XBS organizes various fests and programmes throughout the year, including Inter B-School, Inter and Intra Department wherein there are events from cultural, sports and management domain organised with the help of different committees and clubs at XBS.

Curriculum

  • 01. What areas of specialization are offered at Xavier Business School?
    XBS offers a 2-year full-time MBA programme with specializations in the field of Finance, Marketing, Human Resources (HR) & Business Analytics (Applicable from the Batch of 2023-25).
  • 02. What are the teaching methods used? Is there any out of classroom learning?
    The teaching method at XBS is application-based learning integrating Lecture-based, Case Study approach, Experiential Learning & Simulation. Industrial visits are a part of course curriculum to give students a closer insight of the industry.
  • 03. Is there an option for other certification programs while pursuing MBA at XBS?
    Yes, a student can always take up an ONLINE certification course without hampering his/her regular class schedules as it allows them the flexibility to maintain their full-time residential programme at XBS. Xavier Business School also conducts various certification courses in collaboration with organisations of repute on areas like Advance Excel, SPSS, Tableau etc.
  • 04. What is the overall curriculum pattern in the 2-year program?
    The MBA program includes: 22 obligatory management subjects, and 8 Specialized Subjects or Electives. There are four additional requirements: a) Project Work b) Dissertation Paper c) Comprehensive Viva d) Extra-Curricular Activities and Programmes.
  • 05. What is the fee structure?
    The course fee is Rs.2,60,000 per semester which includes the cost of tuition, reading material, library facilities, computer facilities, skill training programmes, examinations etc. Apart from this, the students are required to pay a refundable security deposit of Rs.5000/- at the time of admission and also Rs.5015 as the Life Membership Fee for St. Xavier’s University Kolkata Alumni Association.

Infrastructure

  • 01. What are the infrastructural facilities at XBS for students?
    XBS provides an array of facilities, to name a few: Active-learning classrooms with integrated technology and flexible furnishings, Hostel facilities, Canteen and mess, Library with online access, Conference Room, Amphitheatre where students can meet and interact with industry professionals, Indoor Games Room, Basketball Court, Football/Cricket Field, Badminton Court and Volleyball Court, Chapel, Infirmary
  • 02. Can you tell us regarding the Library facilities in detail?
    The Arrupe Central Library is well equipped with modern facilities and resources (print and electronic) in the form of online databases, micro-documents, books, journals, reports, and much more. It has also developed a full-fledged Digital Library equipped with necessary modern equipment.
  • 03. Can you give us more details about the canteen and mess facilities?
    Mess facilities are available for students residing at the hostel. The mess offers breakfast, lunch and dinner offering a wide variety of cuisine on a rotational basis keeping in mind the taste of preferences of the hostellers. The food court is located on the ground floor of the utility building, offering its services from 8 am in the morning till 9 pm.
  • 04. How are the facilities at hostel? How is the room allotment done?
    There are two separate hostel blocks for boys and girls. The hostel provides three different types of rooms. A) Two-bed rooms, with common toilets B) Three-Bed Rooms with attached toilet, and C) Two-Bed Rooms with attach toilet. Each room has a separate and full covered balcony and basic facilities like bed, cupboard, study table, dressing mirror, etc. There is also common television, water filter, newspaper and magazine corner, indoor games facilities in each hostel. The different playgrounds like football, throw ball, basketball, volleyball, cricket and badminton are also accessible by the hostellers. The room is allotted by the authorities.
  • 05. How is the infrastructure with respect to Sports in the university?
    There is provision for both indoor and outdoor sports in the university. Indoor sports facilities include Table Tennis, Chess, Carrom, etc. There is football/cricket ground, basketball court, throwball and volleyball court, badminton court in regard to outdoor sports. There is a well-equipped gymnasium in the utility building as well.

    Xavier Business School has a dedicated placement cell which works throughout the year to build relationships with corporates that aid in the placement of students. The first 3 batches of Xavier Business School achieved more than 94% placement record.
  • 02. What is the average placement package offered to students of Xavier Business School? What is the highest package offered to a student?
    The average package received to the class of 2022 is INR 7.15 lakhs per annum. The highest package offered to a student for the batch passing out in 2022 was INR 17 lakhs per annum.
