Overview
- National Academic Depository (NAD) was initiated by MHRD to provide a 24X7 online depository to Academic Institutions to store and publish their academic awards whereas Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) system consolidates educational records in one place, making it easy to accumulate, transfer and access student's credit records across different learning pathways.
- As per the UGC directives, all Universities and Autonomous Colleges in India should maintain NAD to store their academic records and all students should have their ABC ID for credit accumulation and transfer.
- The Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) is a digital platform provided by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. In line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, ABC acts as a dynamic academic portfolio that captures, stores, and showcases a learner's achievements across the entire education spectrum.
- The Academic Bank of Credits provides a unique ABC ID to every learner, creating a unified digital identity for all their academic pursuits. This ID, linked to DigiLocker, allows for secure storage, management, and transfer of academic credits earned.
- St. Xavier's University, Kolkata (SXUK) is one of the pioneers to implement UGC NAD initiative and create Academic Bank of Credit ID (ABC ID) also known as Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) ID for all registered students of the institution (except for foreign students). Since inception, all the academic records of the students i.e. Marksheets, Academic Transcripts and Degree Certificates are uploaded to UGC-NAD and later on from 2021, all the students have their own ABC ID for credit accumulation and transfer.
- The APAAR ID becomes a unique lifelong academic identity, enabling access to academic records, certificates, and qualifications all in one place —securely and transparently.
