Call to become entrepreneurs
St. Xavier's University starts MBA Course
New Town, Kolkata: Industrialist Sanjiv
Goenka, St Xavier's University
Vice-Chancellor Father Felix Raj, Pro
Vice-Chancellor Father Sebasti Raj,
Registrar Prof. Ashis Mitra and Dean, Prof.
Soma Sur jointly inaugurated the two-year,
fully residential MBA course in the presence
of 90 students of Xavier Business School (XBS)
on Tuesday, August 7.
Be entrepreneurs and not managers; that was
the advice from St Xavier's University
Vice-Chancellor Father Felix Raj to the
first batch of students of the institute's
B-school.
"There is a difference between a manager and
an entrepreneur. A manager will add value to
a company but an entrepreneur will
multiply...," Felix Raj said at the
inauguration of Xavier Business School on
Tuesday. The 17-acre campus of the school,
modelled on XLRI Jamshedpur, is located in
New Town. The University has got the
approval of the All India Council of
Technical Education (AICTE) to run the
course.
"You are beginning a new chapter in the
history of St Xavier's by joining as the
first batch of MBA students... Please
remember once a Xaverian, you will always
call yourself a Xaverian... The aim of the
B-School is not just to produce managers....
We are looking at future leaders of industry
and the country," he said.
Earlier, Fr. Sebasti Raj, Pro
Vice-Chancellor extended a warm welcome to
all the students to the Xaverian family and
invited them to make the best use of the
facilities available in the institute.
Xavier Business School, equipped with all the facilities available in the best business schools in the country, is offering a two-year postgraduate programme in business administration with specialization in finance, marketing, human resource and systems.
The Wi-Fi campus has air-conditioned classrooms equipped with audio-visual systems, eight Amphitheatre, a digital library with access for students and teachers, hostels, a food court, doctors on call and a placement cell that will network with top companies.
The 90 students in the first batch were selected through Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT), GMAT and CAT. The university plans to select students through XAT and GMAT - like XLRI Jamshedpur and the XIMB Bhubaneswar - from next year.
Industrialist and Xaverian Sanjiv Goenka, an alumnus of St Xavier's College Calcutta, attended the inaugural programme as chief guest. "Today I am what I am because of the values that were taught to me by the institute... Remember once you enter St Xavier's, you are on the top of a percentile," Mr. Goenka said.
Prof. Ashis Mitra introduced the freshers to the rules and regulations of the B-School and called them to imbibe the Xaverian culture to become leaders. Prof. Soma Sur proposed the vote of thanks.
The new XBS entrants are attending an
induction cum orientation programme for a
week.
