30th to 31st August 2019
The Department of Mass Communication of St. Xavier's University organized the city's biggest Communication Fest "XAVCOMM" on the 30th and 31st of August, 2019. The fest was inaugurated by the Guest of Honour, Indrani Banerjee, the Chief Public Relations Officer of Metro Railways, Kolkata. The first edition of the inter-institutional fest, paid homage to the classics that form the foundation of knowledge with the theme 'Retelling Classics'.
Our Vice-Chancellor Fr. Dr. Felix Raj S.J., Registrar Prof. Ashis Mitra, Dean of Arts & Social Studies Fr. Dr. Soosai Nayagam, and Ms. Indrani Banerjee jointly inaugurated the communication fest followed by cake cutting at the Arrupe Building Auditorium of St. Xavier's University, Kolkata. During her speech, Ms. Banerjee spoke of her rich professional knowledge and emphasized on the importance and need of communication.
Students from over twenty Institutions across Kolkata attended the two-day fest and competed against each other in thirteen events, covering various aspects of media and communications. The events were Writing, Journalism, Advertising, Public Relations, Digital Marketing, Fiction and Non-fiction Film-Making, Junk Edit, Designing, Radio, Photography, Quiz, Debate and the flagship event of the fest Mass Communicator. The number of participants crossed 500.
The closing ceremony witnessed the presence of National award winning filmmaker, Mr. Srijit Mukherjee. He delivered the concluding speech and shared his views about the University and XavComm 2019. Based on the performance in each event, St. Xavier's College was adjudged the Best Visiting College.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Professor - in - charge, Dr. Manali Bhattacharya and the Student Convenor, Mehul Agarwal concluded the ceremony with his parting note. The ceremony also included dance and music performances by the students of Department of Mass Communication.
