Biographical Sketch

Dr Prashna Samaddar joined Xavier Law School, St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata, as an Assistant Professor in August 2021. Before this institute, she had teaching experience at Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur; Jagannath Institute of Management Studies (affiliated to Indraprastha University, Delhi); and Galgotias University, Greater Noida. She was awarded her PhD from West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS), Kolkata, in the year 2018. The thesis on which she was awarded her doctorate was titled, “Cry for Nationality and lives in Vacuity: A Comparative Analysis on Condition of Statelessness in South Asian States with Special Reference to India”. She has published articles and book chapters in various reputed National and International Journals and edited books. She has completed a 15-day winter course on Law, Justice and Sustainable Development organised by Centre for Law, Justice and Development, National Law University, Delhi, in collaboration with University of Antwerp, Antwerp, Belgium, under the Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration, Government of India, from 15th-30th January, 2020. She has also completed a two-and-a-half-month pilot course conducted by the Institute of Stateless and Inclusion, on “An introduction to childhood statelessness and promoting every child’s right to a Nationality” from 11th June, 2020 to 24th August,2020 in association with Tilburg University, Netherlands. Her major areas of teaching are: Public International Law, Law of International Organisations, International Human Rights Law, International Humanitarian and Refugee Laws, Citizenship Law, and International Disputes Resolution Bodies in the present institute. The other areas that she has taught are Immigration Laws, Energy Laws and Sports Law in previous institutes. Since joining the legal fraternity, she has had teaching experience of more than 9 years.
