Faculty Profile

Dr. Sitangshu Khatua is a distinguished academician, researcher, and finance professional currently serving as Dean and Professor at St. Xavier’s University Kolkata since 2023. With an impressive academic background that includes a PhD in Finance from XLRI, an MBA in Finance, CFA, BTech (NIT). Dr. Khatua has established himself as an expert in finance, asset pricing, behavioural finance, and project appraisal. 

Over the years, Dr. Khatua has contributed extensively to teaching, research, and academic administration. His areas of specialization include financial engineering, derivatives and risk management, investment analysis, project finance, and financial economics. He has taught at reputed institutions such as XLRI, IIM, IIFT, NIT, XISS. 

Dr. Khatua’s research contributions are notable in the domains of stock market overreaction, ESG, real options, financial capability, and behavioural finance. He has presented papers at prestigious national and international conferences organized by institutions including Indian Institute of Management Calcutta and Management Development Institute. He has also authored several books, such as Project Management & Appraisal (OUP), Financial Economics which reflect his expertise in advanced financial studies. 

In recognition of his academic excellence, Dr. Khatua has received numerous awards, including “The Most Admired Professor in Management” in 2023 and the Nelson Mandela Human Rights Award in 2025.  He is a Honorary Distinguished Fellow Beyond at the Forum for Global Studies,2026. Beyond academics, he actively contributes to corporate training, corporate bodies, and consulting assignments related to finance, sustainability, and policy development in various corporates and  Government and other apex bodies. His multidimensional career demonstrates a strong commitment to research, education, and professional excellence in the field of finance and management. He also actively involved in Management Development Programme (MDP), corporate training and consultancy.
