Dr. Sushmita Pandit is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mass Communication at St. Xavier's University, Kolkata, with 16 years of full-time academic experience. She holds a PhD from Jadavpur University and is UGC-NET qualified in Journalism & Mass Communication. She earned an M.A. in Mass Communication & Videography (Gold Medallist) from Rabindra Bharati University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Digital Humanities and Cultural Informatics from Jadavpur University, securing first rank in both programmes.
Alongside her academic career, she has over 18 years of professional media experience as a Radio Presenter for All India Radio, hosting more than 500 live shows, and as a Programming Manager for an online radio station serving the Bengali diaspora in the UK.
Her research interests include media and communication studies, television studies, distribution studies, platform studies, digital culture, media policy, and media literacy. She has published in Scopus-indexed journals, contributed book chapters to reputed international publishers, and presented papers at institutions including the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Jamia Millia Islamia, the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision, Istanbul Bilgi University, Lomonosov Moscow State University, and Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Dubai. She received a travel grant from the International Communication Association to present at their conference in Fukuoka, Japan (2016). She has also chaired sessions at international conferences organised jointly by Bennett University, the University of Calgary, and Erasmus University Rotterdam, as well as at a conference organized by KIIT University, Bhubaneswar.
Dr. Pandit has contributed to MOOCs and digital education initiatives for SWAYAM and e-PG Pathshala, and has prepared study modules for IGNOU and NSOU. She also serves as Secretary of Bichitra Pathshala, organising educational workshops and outreach programmes across Kolkata.
