I am Manisha Tamang, currently employed as an Assistant Professor in Law in Xavier Law School, St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata. I pursued both my B.A. LL.B and LL.M (2019) from Department of Law, University of North Bengal. While pursuing LLM, I developed a strong interest in socio-legal research and human rights jurisprudence and undertook a dissertation titled on “Prohibition of forced Labour : A Survey of Implementation of the Legal Framework” under the supervision of Prof. Gangotri Chakraborty and examined the effectiveness of legal protections against forced labour. My academic engagement extends beyond doctrinal analysis to empirical and field-based research. I have conducted studies on the role of the NGO's in protecting the rights of the child and examined how inclusive education is being implemented in Siliguri. These experiences strengthened my engagement with socio-legal research and grassroots realities affecting vulnerable communities. I also qualified the UGC-Net examination in the same year I completed my LL.M. At present, I am pursuing my Phd from Xavier Law School, St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata under the guidance of Asst. Prof. Prashna Samaddar. My area of interest include Human Rights Law, Child Rights, International Law, Indian Contract Law and Jurisprudence. I have also written on issues concerning mental health and the right of minorities, with a focus on contemporary legal and social concerns. Through my teaching, research and academic engagements, I aspire to contribute to critical legal discourse and socially responsive scholarship.
