Dr. Swapan Chakraborty is an economist and academician currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at St. Xavier's University, Kolkata, a position he has held since July 2019. Born on April 2, 1977, he completed his foundational education in West Bengal before pursuing a specialized academic trajectory in quantitative economics. He earned his Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in Economics from Narendrapur R.K.M.R. College under the University of Calcutta in 1999, followed by a Master of Science (M.Sc) in Economics with a specialization in Econometrics and Statistics from the University of Calcutta in 2001. Dr. Chakraborty later advanced his studies at the prestigious Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi, where he obtained his M.Phil. in 2010 and was subsequently awarded his Ph.D. in Economics in 2019. His doctoral research focus addressed critical dynamics in labor market institutions, labor regulation, and economic growth.
With over two decades of multifaceted academic experience, Dr. Chakraborty began his teaching career as a Trainee Academic Associate at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad from 2002 to 2004. He spent nearly a decade in New Delhi holding various ad-hoc assistant professor positions across notable colleges of Delhi University, including Daulat Ram, Kirorimal, SGTB Khalsa, and Shyamlal Evening College. His professional background also features institutional research, having served as a Research Associate at the Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Calcutta (CTRPFP). Dr. Chakraborty's core research interests center on labor market frameworks and manufacturing productivity, with peer-reviewed publications featured in standard platforms such as The Indian Journal of Labour Economics (Springer) and Arthabisleshon..
