St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata (SXUK), organised a Staff Development Programme on September 12 and 26, 2026 at the university campus, aimed at enhancing the professional competence, administrative efficiency, technological awareness, financial understanding and ethical responsibilities of its staff members.
The programme began with an inaugural address by Dr. Tuhin Utsab Paul, Director, IQAC, who highlighted the importance of continuous learning and capacity building in strengthening institutional effectiveness.
The programme featured four sessions. Mr. Debashish Biswas, Additional Registrar, SXUK discussed systematic file management, documentation, record tracking and the emerging role of technologies such as Blockchain in administration. The session on budget preparation, conducted by Mr. Shiladitya Chatterjee, Deputy Finance Officer, Jadavpur University, focused on financial planning, resource management, savings and investment.
Dr. Kaushik Bal, Planning and Development Officer, University of Calcutta, conducted a session on Artificial Intelligence, highlighting its potential to improve workplace productivity while cautioning against sharing confidential information with AI tools.
The final session on Work Ethics and Student Management was conducted by Fr. Dr. Xavier Jeyaraj, S.J., Registrar, SXUK. He emphasised integrity, responsibility and effective communication, describing university staff as the institution’s “unseen roots”. He also stressed that “Technology should serve pedagogy, not substitute it”, while connecting professional responsibilities with the Jesuit ideal of Ad Maiorem Dei Gloriam.
In the valedictory address, Rev. Dr. John Felix Raj, S.J., Vice-Chancellor, SXUK emphasised collective wisdom, Magis and Cura Personalis. He encouraged regular workshops to promote reflection, professional renewal and service-oriented work culture. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Tanmay Kumar Pal, Assistant Registrar.
The same four sessions were repeated on September 26, 2026 for another group of staff members, ensuring wider participation. The two-day initiative reinforced the University's commitment to professional development, ethical administration and a culture of continuous learning.
