Dr. Ankita Chakraborty is an Assistant Professor of Law at Xavier Law School, St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata. She is a socio-legal researcher and academician with interdisciplinary expertise spanning criminology, criminal justice, gender justice, child rights, and tribal customary law. Her teaching and research integrate doctrinal analysis with empirical and ethnographic methods, reflecting a strong commitment to justice-oriented and community-engaged legal scholarship.
Dr. Chakraborty has published extensively in reputed national and international journals, including publications with Cambridge University Press, Springer, and Taylor & Francis. She has contributed to edited volumes and conference proceedings on issues such as human trafficking, commercial surrogacy, and feminist legal theory. She has collaborated with leading scholars in India and abroad and actively participates in multi-institutional research networks.
She served as the Co-Principal Investigator on a few funded research projects, one of them focusing on domestic violence in matrilineal societies. Currently, she serves as the Co-Principal Investigator on a funded research project focusing on adolescent relationships under the POCSO Act in traditional tribal societies. Her work critically examines the intersections of law, power, culture, and vulnerability, particularly in marginalised and indigenous communities.
An advocate of experiential and reflective pedagogy, Dr. Chakraborty designs curricula aligned with NEP 2020 and Jesuit educational values, emphasising critical thinking, ethical leadership, and social responsibility. She regularly coordinates academic conferences, faculty development programmes, and student skill-building initiatives.
