Dr. Antara Ghatak is an Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the Post Graduate Course in the Department of English. She obtained her M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in English Literature from the University of Calcutta. Her areas of academic specialization include Gender Studies and Memory Studies, with a particular focus on research concerning genocidal communities, war narratives, and the Partition of India.
Dr. Ghatak is a certified Citizen Historian with the 1947 Partition Archive and is deeply engaged in the archival study of post-conflict societies and cultural memory. Her research interests further extend to Victorian literature, especially the works of women novelists of the Victorian Age. Through her interdisciplinary approach, she explores the intersections of literature, history, memory, and identity.
She has actively participated in numerous national and international seminars, conferences, and academic discussions, contributing significantly to contemporary debates in literary and cultural studies. Her scholarly publications on gender, memory, and Partition studies have appeared in reputed academic platforms, including publications by Routledge, United Kingdom, and Orient Black Swan, India.
In addition to her academic pursuits, Dr. Ghatak is a trained classical dancer and maintains a strong interest in performance practices and Performance Studies. She is particularly interested in examining the relationship between literary texts and embodied performance traditions.
As a research supervisor, she has successfully guided Ph.D. scholars working in areas such as Memory Studies, Performance in Bengali theatre, and War Studies. Her commitment to interdisciplinary scholarship, archival engagement, and pedagogy continues to enrich both teaching and research within the field of English Studies.
