Dr. Parvati Varma is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at St. Xavier's University. She earned her M.Sc in Psychology from Sikkim University, Gangtok where she was awarded with the Gold Medal as the topper. She completed her PhD in 2024 from Sikkim Central University, Gangtok. She has over five years of teaching and mentorship experience across graduate and postgraduate levels. Before joining St. Xavier's, she taught as Guest Faculty at Sikkim Central University for two years, as Visiting Faculty at Sikkim Government Nursing College for one year, and as an assistant professor at Amity University, Kolkata.
She specializes in Organizational Psychology and Social Psychology. Her research is driven by a central question: How do we connect with others? She explores interpersonal relationships, intergenerational differences, the relationship between fashion and psychology, and digital mental health. Dr. Varma’s doctoral research focused on the nature and process of infidelity in dating relationships. Her work has examined topics such as the emotional consequences of infidelity on perpetrators, the motives behind infidelity, and the role of social media in infidelity behaviors. Her works place a special emphasis on relationships in the Indian context focused on cultural differences that show up in relational dynamics.
Her work has been published in Scopus-indexed and national peer-reviewed journals, as well as book chapters. Her teaching philosophy holds that failure is a necessary part of academic and professional growth. She aims to nurture not only skilled researchers but also empathetic, ethically grounded psychologists ready to contribute meaningfully to society.
