Dr. Poulami Chatterjee is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at St. Xavier’s University Kolkata, where she has been serving since November 2020. She completed her Ph.D. in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, with a doctoral thesis titled “Impact of Maternal and Child Healthcare and Status on Child Development: A Longitudinal Analysis.” She was awarded the UGC-NET Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in 2014.
Dr. Chatterjee’s research interests lie in development economics, health economics, gender studies, child welfare, and applied econometrics. Her work has been published in reputed national and international journals. Her research primarily focuses on maternal and child health, women’s empowerment, education, nutrition, and socio-economic inequalities in India using longitudinal and micro-level data analysis.
Before joining academia, she worked as a Research Associate at National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj and held analytical positions in leading corporate organizations such as Genpact, Prudential, and The Smart Cube. She has presented papers at several prestigious international conferences in Turkey, the United States, South Africa, France, the Netherlands, and Germany, and has received travel grants and scholarships for her academic contributions.
Dr. Chatterjee has also been actively involved in organizing academic conferences and workshops, including serving as Convenor and Co-convenor of major economics conferences at St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata.
She has been awarded prestigious research grant from Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) for her project “Bridging the Digital Divide for Women in STEM across West Bengal, Assam, and Meghalaya” during 2025-26.
Her areas of specialization are Health Economics, Gender, Applied Econometrics, Impact Evaluation. Her primary academic interest lies in Applied Micro Econometrics, Gender, Health Economics, Public Policies, Development Economics.
