Maria Joseph Israel holds a PhD in Computer Science and Engineering from Santa Clara University, California, USA, where he also taught Computer Science and Engineering, and led research projects on AI, knowledge engineering, system storage technology, and AI Ethics. His research addresses the question of what it takes to digitally verify a digital artifact and the issues of trust and authenticity in the context of an AI-enhanced infosphere. Furthermore, his current research aims to directly assess the social impact of computing technology in the society and particularly data and automation technologies like AI. His research interests include: artificial intelligence, knowledge engineering, human-computer interaction, social entrepreneurship, technology impact on society, and AI ethics. He has published his research works in reputed international journals and conferences, and received best paper awards for some of his research publications.
Currently he is an assistant professor of Computer Science at St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata, while also being a visiting professor and research scholar at Santa Clara University, USA. He is an AI and Faith expert and a Fellow at AI and Faith organization, USA. He also assists international organizations in offering online higher education to students across South Asia, Africa and Latin America.
He has several years of administration, teaching, and research experience in higher education and has worked in post-war zone countries in various capacities, offering higher education and welfare services to people at the margins of the society. He taught in local and foreign higher education institutions, and worked with International Aid Agencies and World Bank funded projects. He helped establish several educational institutions including an Institute for Management and Administration.
